The
Lean Institute at Tinker Air Force
Base (AFB) is
designed to support enterprise-wide
transformation of core processes through
dynamic, focused professional training
that is tailored to meet the Air Force's
specific needs. Training includes workshops
and coached activities that deploy
SCOR, Lean and Six Sigma process improvement
knowledge and skills. The Institute
reflects a partnership model that builds
branding, unity of effort, responsive
decision and planning cycles, efficient
use of resources, and a powerful collaborative
relationship between Tinker AFB and
OU. The plan leverages the Air Force's
institutional strengths and current
capacity and exponentially grows both
through a comprehensive training and
resource program.
Training is characterized by:
The
Lean Institute at Tinker AFB will
use an integrated model that takes
advantage of the synergistic power
of the SCOR, Lean, and Six Sigma
tools. Training promotes the participants'
understanding of the interrelationship
and interaction that exist among
SCOR, Lean, and Six Sigma tool sets
and how all three facilitate effective
process improvement. This cohesive
and integrated approach promotes
the appropriate blending of the three
methodologies for process improvement
while still allowing for discrete
content emphasis for each workshop
audience. The Venn diagram visually
presents the idea of blending training
while retaining the specific content
emphasis.
The following Lean
Institute at Tinker AFB training strategies
are used to support the development
of process improvement skill sets
immediately applicable to the organizational
transformation effort:
-
Case studies derived from
situations and challenges that use practical
examples from problems in the workplace
at Tinker.
-
Simulations that demonstrate
first-hand the effects of Lean,
Six Sigma, and SCOR-related strategies
and processes.
-
Real experiences in actual
work settings, to include
-
Observing the current
state in the participants' own work
group(s). 0 Practicing techniques in
participants' own work area(s).
-
Implementing techniques
in participants' own work area(s)
under the coaching of a SME.
-
Individual
and team projects
targeting performance issues
at Tinker.
Among the materials to be used
are the following:
-
Participant manuals that
present information in plain language
supported by appropriate graphics
and visuals for use during training
and as a reference after training.
-
Work sheets and exercises
that stress applications, not
just concepts, and results rather than
theories.
-
Video tapes
that explore how to apply Lean, Six
Sigma, and SCOR principles.
