OU Lean Courses - Overview

Lean Employee Introduction

This course is designed for those new to Lean and is a basic overview of Lean for your employees. This program prepares your team to begin the journey into the Lean arena, allowing your organization to empower its employees and set the stage for continuous improvement.


Facilitators Course

In order for an organization to improve its processes, it must have clear communication, productive idea generation, creative problem-solving and effective implementation skills. It is critical for those with Lean knowledge to understand group process dynamics and how to enhance communication within workgroups. This program prepares organizations to take charge of their future Lean Six Sigma projects by having internal team members trained to guide the organization on the Lean journey.


Lean or Six Sigma Executive (half day)

Prerequisite None

These half day courses are designed for participants selected by the company for their knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma and their abilities to contribute to continuous improvement processes throughout the enterprise. This program prepares your team of executives to facilitate the Lean or Six Sigma journey, to review the curriculum and delivery of Lean strategies and to lead the transformation efforts in your company.

These half day courses may be combined with our Lean Executive program for further instruction on enterprise-wide continuous improvement processes. They may also be combined together into a Lean/Six Sigma whole day executive introduction.


Value Stream Mapping

Prerequisite Lean Employee Intro or Green/White Belt

This introductory Value Stream Mapping course teaches the technique of Lean process mapping, also known as Value Stream Mapping. This technique is used to analyze information and work flow for any process ranging from the customer’s initial request, to delivery of the final product or service. Students will learn the symbols and language of a value stream map and complete a current state map of an internal process.


5S+1 System
Minimum 5, Maximum 20
16 Hours(1.6 CEU / 16 PDU)
Prerequisite None

5S (Sort, Simplify, Scrub, Standardize, Sustain). Organization and cLeanliness are the foundation for all processes, whether they are in a manufacturing or office environment. This course provides the real world fundamentals of 5S and visual management. 5S is a powerful continuous improvement philosophy that can generate immediate results. This course provides the information needed to start your 5S program and make it stick.


Lean Mid-level
2 days (1.6 CEU / 16 PDU)
Prerequisite None

With an emphasis on the knowledge and skills needed to implement the Lean transformation and oversee it effectively, this program prepares your team of mid-level employees to take active roles in continuous process improvement and transformation throughout your enterprise. Moreover, this mid-level-based course serves as a way to connect everyday employees with varying degrees of management in a concerted effort to promote and implement Lean transformation across all levels of the organization.


Lean Application
4 days (3.2 CEU / 32 PDU)

This course is designed to provide participants with in-depth understanding and practical in-the-workplace application of Lean strategies. This program has a deliberately interactive approach, which includes a one-day Lean process improvement project that takes place in your work environment. Ultimately, this program prepares your team of employees to take active roles in continuous process improvement and transformation throughout the enterprise.


White Belt Training

This course has been designed to provide the core concepts of Lean Six Sigma with a focus on basic Lean practices and quality improvement tools. Our White Belt training makes it easy for people to question how things get done within their “line-of-sight.” Participants will be introduced to the DMAIC methodology – Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control – as well as tools to help them enhance their fundamental quality skills and application of common sense. This program will allow you to introduce the Lean Six Sigma program into more areas within the organization and reach line level employees without completing the projects required in the Green Belt course. This will create real financial gains that create value for both the company and its customers.


Green Belt Training

14 Days (9.6 CEU / 96 PDU)
Coaching Hours Included 5 per student team

Students entering this training will continue their journey through Lean Six Sigma by working detailed Value Stream Maps-Current and Future State Maps. Using their Lean knowledge, they will identify areas of waste with an in-depth look at the sources of defects and the associated quality issues. They will apply Lean Six Sigma tools, including statistical analysis, to reduce sources of defects and then to verify the effectiveness of their solutions. This course emphasizes interactive simulations, exercises in statistical analysis, small group interaction and a real-world improvement project in order to receive the professional certificate of Green Belt.


Black Belt Training
Minimum 8,Maximum 12
12 Days(9.6 CEU / 96 PDU)
Coaching Hours Included 8 per student
Prerequisite Green Belt Certification

The ideal student is a Green Belt who has been deployed in their organizations as a coach, Six Sigma Champion and Lean Leader. They have proven they are now ready for advanced coaching and leadership roles. Black Belt students will be provided higher level tools and methodologies required to function in this role. Our training focuses on the area of statistics since a large part of the Black Belt’s job is to provide this type of knowledge and training to their team and organization.
