Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt (12 days)
Students entering this training will continue their journeys through Lean/Six Sigma by working detailed Value Stream Maps - Current and Future State Maps. Using their Lean knowledge they will identify areas of waste with a more in-depth look at the sources of defects and the associated quality issues. They will apply Lean/Six Sigma tools, to include statistical analysis, to reduce sources of defects and then to verify the effectiveness of their solutions. This course emphasizes interactive simulations, small group interaction and a comprehensive hands-on project in order to gain the distinction of Certified Green Belt.
Who Should Attend: Typical Green Belts are individuals from across all units with diverse technical, operational and/or transactional backgrounds. Natural candidates to become Green Belts are people whose current positions are routinely associated with or directed at problem solving. Individuals identified for this intense training should be those who will be expected to become continuous process improvement team members.
Objective: As part-time members of Lean/Six Sigma process improvement action teams within their functional area (as part of their weekly/daily routine), Green Belts—after training—and under the supervision and mentorship of a Black Belt, may be associate team leaders in a closely scoped project or sub-project. Green Belts need have no previous technically-oriented training. The workshop includes intensive training, hands-on exercises and instructional videos that will train each participant how to lead process improvement strategies effectively. The workshop will be followed by a 90-120 day coached project during which each trained Green Belt must demonstrate, under the coaching of a Lean Institute instructor, the ability to implement process improvement using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies. Upon successful completion of the project, the participant will become a Certified Green Belt. Note: The actual 10-day schedule may be customized according to specific customer needs and goals.
Topics: This workshop presents fundamental Lean/Six Sigma knowledge and project-applicable best practices that support the company’s vision and goals. The course covers Lean/Six Sigma strategies and tools, shows the relationship of the transformation components of Lean, Six Sigma and SCOR and demonstrates how to lead process improvement projects. Each trained Green Belt will be able to:
- Apply the basic Six Sigma tools and methodologies
- Think critically and use data-driven approaches to solving problems following the DMAIC model
- Develop process and value-stream maps
- Develop cause and effect diagrams
- Demonstrate basic statistical analyses
- Understand and apply the following elements of Six Sigma techniques:
- Central limit theorem
- Sample size
- FMEA
- Regression
- Mistake-proofing (Poka Yoke)
- Control plans
- T-tests
- Apply Lean/Six Sigma tools to track day-to-day process/project improvements
- Understand and leverage the synergism among Lean, Six Sigma and SCOR
- Report out results in a structured format
